Overview

Betway offers online sports betting and a range of online casino games. They have offices in London, Malta, Guernsey, and in Madrid. The company employs 600 people internationally as well as 1,300 dedicated third–party support staff.

They hold gambling licenses from many different countries, allowing them to operate legally in these countries and across borders in instances where international licenses are accepted. Among them are licenses from Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Mexico, Poland, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, the UK and various US states.

Betway is a member of the European Sports Security Association, the Independent Betting Adjudication Service, the Remote Gambling Association, and the company is also accredited by international testing agency eCOGRA.

Additionally, Betway is partnered with the Professional Players Federation and they are a supporter of the Responsible Gambling Trust.

Awards and Achievements

Throughout the years, Betway has received many awards in the casino and sports betting industry, though the Betway Group homepage currently only lists the following:

  • SBC Awards 2022 – Winner of Esports Operator of the year
  • EGR Awards 2022 – Winner of Esports Operator of the year
  • Global Regulatory Awards 2022 – Shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to Sports Betting Integrity

The Germany magazine Focus awarded the betting site with a “Sehr Gut” (“Very Good”) stamp of approval in 2022, where their customer service, betting offer and safety and security were particularly highly rated.

Regulation and compliance (Controversies)

With a large number of gambling licenses, Betway aims to conduct itself fairly and aims for a trustworthy partnership not just as a sponsor and partner of many football and other sports clubs but with their customer base as well.

However, they have been found to violate licensing rules and regulations in the past. The UKGC is particularly strict, meting out fines whenever necessary.

In 2019, Betway disbanded their VIP department after headlines were made that this department encouraged high-rolling customers to keep spending money on gambling products.

In 2020, they slapped Betway with a record £11,6 million fine for failing to prevent money laundering and adhere to consumer protection measures. Over a period of four years, one customer was allowed to make deposits worth £8 million and lose £4 million during that time.

In 2022, another fine of $464,000 was issued by the UKGC because the betting site had added its logo to the children’s page of the West Ham United FC’s website. Children that had downloaded a printable teddy bear with the West Ham logo, would have consequently been bombarded with gambling ads.
