Overview

Bet365 is widely considered to be one of the best betting sites around. They are present in a majority of countries around the globe and boast millions of customers.

With offices in Stoke-on-Trent (their headquarters), Manchester, Malta, Gibraltar, Bulgaria and even Australia, the Hillside Media Group (under which bet365 operates) employs well over 4,000 people.

Bet365 is licensed in the UK, in Malta, Gibraltar, Spain, Sweden, several US States and in Germany, among others. This generally contributes to the view that bet365 is safe and trustworthy as they are beholden to many different (and very strict) gambling authorities.

The type of gambling products bet365 customers are able to access depend on the license that applies in the country or region. In the UK, bet365 customers will be able to use the full suite of gambling products from live sports betting to live casino gambling and everything in between.

Customers in Germany, on the other hand, can only use the bet365 sportsbook. Even though the German license does allow for slot and casino games, bet365 has chosen not to offer those.

History

In 2000, Denise Coates founded bet365 in its current form in a portable building in Stoke-on-Trent, developing a sports betting platform and a trading team. The business launched online in March of 2001. Prior to that, her father Peter Coates had founded a betting shop estate all the way back in 1974, which had been run by Denise since 1995. She brought the business online.

In 2005, Denise sold the betting shop chain to Coral for £40 million.

The company has been growing ever since, but remains a family business, with Peter Coats listed as chairman and siblings John and Denise Coats joint CEOs. In 2012, Denise received a CBE from the Queen for her services to the community and business.

Bet365 has signed various sponsorship deals over the years with different sports and football clubs not just in the UK but with Bulgarian clubs as well.

Betting and gambling products

Note: whilst bet365 offers all these betting and gambling products, they may not be available to all customers anywhere as individual licensing agreements determine which gambling products may be offered to customers.

Bet365 Sports Betting

Bet365 is home to sports betting on as many as 35 to 40 different sports as well as special events such as TV and movie award shows, the EuroVision Song Contest, political elections and even the weather.

Live betting

In most countries and regions, live betting is a favoured bet365 product, especially since b365 is well-known for its extensive live streaming offer. Live betting is usually offered for the same sports as pre-match betting, though it may be limited under some betting licenses (such as the German license).

Bet365 Online Casino Games

Bet365 offers every type of online casino games from slots to arcade games to roulette, baccarat, blackjack, dice games, scratch cards and so-called skill games.

Live casino games

Live table games include casino poker games, blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette, wheel of fortune type games and more.

Bet365 Poker

Bet365 also offers a variety of poker games from video poker to casino poker, live casino poker and poker network games against other players from around the world.

Bet365 Other games

Among other available gambling products, one may find bingo, keno, lottery and toto products at bet365. Bonuses

Bet365 offers many different types of bonuses for their new and existing customers. The value and type of bonus changes depending on where you sign up at bet365. Customers in the UK will receive a different bonus than customers in Sweden, for instance.

That said, bet365 typically offers a bet credit bonus for new customers, where customers receive a specific amount in bet credits that they are able to use to place bets on certain sports.

Usually, customers need to register an account and place a qualifying bet (on specific odds and of a specific value) and receive a bet credit of a matching value once the initial bet is settled. These bet credits can then be used on just about any type of bet one may wish to place.

Beyond that, bet365 offers event-based bonus and promotional offers for big events in football, tennis, cricket, motorsports and more.

Their wagering requirements are usually considered to be fair.

Awards and achievements

Bet365 has received a multitude of industry awards throughout the years. Some of them are:

  • eGaming Review Operator Awards 2010: Bet365 won the “Operator of the Year” award.
  • eGaming Review magazine ranked Bet365 the number one Internet gaming company in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
  • In 2020, 2021 and 2022, Bet365 won the SBC Bookmaker of the Year.

Controversies

Whilst generally very well reviewed and widely considered to be a trustworthy and safe online betting site, bet365 has suffered its share of controversies over the years.

Some of these are:

  • October 2014: The Guardian newspaper reported that the company took bets from Chinese citizens using obscure domain names to avoid government web censorship.
  • In 2016: bet365 was fined $2.75 million AUD by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission for misleading advertisements falsely promising “free bets” to customers.

Various criticisms from winning players denying payments. Such as:

  • A payout of £54,000 to a customer in England in 2016
  • The account of a punter who had won around $200,000 AUD in 2016 was frozen without explanation.
  • Over £1 million in winnings to a horse bettor in Northern Ireland in 2017 were not paid out.
  • More instances can be found in various gambling and betting forums.

Finally, whilst gambling is, at best, unregulated in India, bet365 nonetheless conducted advertising in the country. Following this, India’s consumer affairs ministry served notices to several television channels and mobile apps for promoting gambling companies. They were asked to stop showing ads from bet365 and other betting companies immediately.
